Sin

What is sin?

Sin is any thought, word, or action that goes against God’s holy character and His commands.

James 4:17:
So then, if we do not do the good we know we should do, we are guilty of sin.

What are some sins listed in the bible?

Exodus 20:1–17:

(The Ten Commandments):
idolatry, dishonoring parents, murder, adultery, theft, false witness, coveting.

Galatians 5:19–21:

“sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these.”

1 Corinthians 6:9–10:

“the sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, men who practice homosexuality, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, swindlers.”

Romans 1:29–31:

“evil, covetousness, malice, envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness, gossip, slander, hating God, insolence, haughtiness, boastfulness, inventing evil, disobedience to parents, foolishness, faithlessness, heartlessness, ruthlessness.”

Jesus taught, “There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him”

Mark 7:15

However, we are called to use our freedom in love—if eating certain foods would cause another believer to stumble, we should abstain out of care for their conscience.
